Wardrobe Guide

What to Wear for a B&W Portrait

These sessions are all about clean light, honesty, and presence. Your wardrobe should support that, not distract from it. Here’s a quick guide to help you prep for your shoot:

1. Keep It Simple (But Sharp)

Solid, well-fitted pieces photograph beautifully in black and white. Stick to clean silhouettes and clothes you feel comfortable moving in. No need to overthink it—if it feels like you, it’s probably right.

2. Color (Yes, It Still Matters)

While the final images will be in black and white, your clothing’s color still affects how it reads tonally.

  • Deep navy, olive, charcoal, cream, and muted tones translate best

  • Avoid neons, bright whites, and colors with high contrast patterns

  • Steer clear of logos, stripes, or anything too visually loud

3. Texture = Depth

Black and white loves texture. Natural fabrics like wool, denim, linen, silk, leather, or lace catch light in interesting ways and add dimension to the frame. A simple cotton tee can work too—just keep the look intentional.

A great hat, a single chain, or a subtle scarf can elevate a portrait without overpowering it. Think of them as visual punctuation.

4. Accessories (Minimal but Impactful)

Quick DO / DON’T

  • ✅ Do bring 1–2 options if you’re unsure

  • ✅ Do layer or play with texture

  • ❌ Don’t wear neon or busy patterns

  • ❌ Don’t over-accessorize

Final Thought: The best outfit is the one you feel good in. If you show up as yourself, we’ll get something real.
